A quick hack for proper sofa posture

“There can never be too many pillows” is one controversial statement that seems to ignite disputes in some households.
There seems to always be one party who subscribes to the camp of buying every seasonal pillow that comes on offer at Walmart, while the other party believes that there must be an end to all this pillow purchasing.
Well, there’s a few more points that we can add to the debate to bolster the case of the pillow fanatic – orthopedic support.
Plenty of us sink into the sofa in instantaneous sloth mode after a day’s work. Rest is important, and pillows can help us rest on the sofa while maintaining better posture.
1. Putting pillows behind our back

Plenty of sofas are built too have too much depth, wherein our backs do not reach the back of our sofas while sitting in an upright position. This causes us naturally, to slouch backwards to do so. Put a comfy, fluffy pillow against the back on the sofa to reduce the depth of the sofa seat. This will allow you to lean back on the sofa comfortably while having the pillow support the natural curve of your spine as well.
2. Putting pillows under our feet

It’s best to keep our knees on the same level as our hips to prevent strain on our joints and muscles. If you’re floor and feet are clean, and you’re comfy to do so, you can throw a pillow under your feet to elevate your knees up higher while in a sitting position. Alternatively you can purchase a low foot stool to do so.
3. Sit on a big flat pillow

It’s best to get a sofa that is the right height for us. In the case where the sofa is too low for us when we are sitting, where our knees are up higher than our hips, you may consider a big, flat pillow with adequate firmness for a quick fix.
4. Put cushions under our arms

When we are tired, our body tends to lean against something for support e.g leaning with an elbow on one side of the sofa or leaning forward with our forearms on our knees, which causes strain on our backs. To support the upper part of our body, we can put 1-2 pillows under each arm to have something comfortable to lean against while propping us up to sit with a healthier posture.
5. Propping a pillow under our head.

A rectangular or cylindrical pillow would be a great choice to pop behind our heads for a comfy lean-back. It would serve to support the natural curve of our neck, whether or not or sofas have a head rest.
How many pillows do you currently have on your sofa? Do you currently use them for orthopedic support or mainly for seasonal decoration?
